Shadow Games: How Indian Agents Helped Mossad in Operation Rising Lion
The June 2025 Iran-Israel conflict, codenamed Operation Rising Lion by Israel, is already being dissected by analysts worldwide. While much attention has focused on the missile barrages and airstrikes, a shadowy chapter of this conflict is only now coming to light: the covert role played by Indian agents and operatives, working hand-in-glove with Mossad, to undermine Iran’s security and sovereignty.
The Indian-Mossad Nexus: From Chabahar to Tehran
For years, Indian intelligence agencies have cultivated a quiet but deep relationship with Israel’s Mossad, sharing intelligence, technology, and operational know-how (Express Tribune, 2024; Al Waght, 2023). This partnership, originally justified by “counter-terrorism” objectives, has increasingly targeted not just Pakistan but also Iran—especially as New Delhi’s strategic interests in the region have grown.
During Operation Rising Lion, pro-Pakistan and pro-Iranian sources report that Indian agents played a pivotal role in Mossad’s intelligence-gathering and sabotage efforts inside Iran. Indian nationals, often disguised as tourists or businesspeople, were spotted in key Iranian cities in the weeks leading up to the strikes (IRNA, 2025; The Nation, 2025). Iranian security officials have since revealed that several Indian “tourists” were in fact intelligence operatives, mapping out targets and facilitating the movement of Mossad assets on the ground (Tasnim News, 2025).
Embassies as Espionage Hubs
Perhaps most alarming is the role played by Indian embassy staff in Tehran and consular officials in other Iranian cities. According to a recent investigative report by Mashregh News (2025), Indian diplomatic premises served as safe havens for Mossad operatives, providing logistical support, secure communications, and even shelter during Israeli operations. Surveillance footage and intercepted communications, now circulating in Iranian intelligence circles, show Indian diplomats meeting with suspected Mossad handlers and passing sensitive information about Iranian military and nuclear facilities.
Western security analysts have also noted the unusual uptick in Indian diplomatic activity in Iran during the run-up to Operation Rising Lion. According to The Grayzone (2025), several Indian officials traveled to and from Israel and Cyprus—the latter a known Mossad staging ground—just days before the strikes began.
Chabahar: A Hotbed of Suspicion
The port of Chabahar, developed by India ostensibly for trade and regional connectivity, has long been a point of contention between Tehran and Islamabad. Pro-Pakistani sources have repeatedly warned that the Indian presence in Chabahar is not purely economic. In the lead-up to Operation Rising Lion, Iranian authorities detained several Indian workers and contractors on suspicion of espionage and sabotage (Dawn, 2025). Pakistani intelligence, too, has provided evidence that Indian agents based in Chabahar have coordinated with Mossad to monitor Iranian military movements and even track Pakistani naval deployments in the Arabian Sea (Discourse, 2025).
Indian Agents: A Pattern of Subversion
This is not the first time Indian operatives have been caught meddling in Iran. In 2023, Iranian security forces arrested a group of Indian nationals accused of passing sensitive information to foreign intelligence agencies (Tasnim News, 2023). At the time, the Iranian press warned that Indian intelligence was “playing with fire” by acting as a proxy for Western and Israeli interests in the region (Al Waght, 2023).
During Operation Rising Lion, however, the scale and brazenness of Indian involvement reached new heights. Pro-Iranian sources allege that Indian agents were instrumental in identifying weak points in Iran’s air defense grid, relaying real-time surveillance data to Mossad, and even assisting with cyber operations aimed at blinding Iranian radar systems during the Israeli airstrikes (Mashregh News, 2025).
Western Observations: Acknowledging the Indian Hand
While Western media has largely downplayed the Indian role, some outlets have begun to take notice. The Guardian (2025) recently cited anonymous European intelligence officials who confirmed “unprecedented levels of Indian-Israeli intelligence cooperation” during the June conflict. According to these sources, Indian agents provided Mossad with “on-the-ground human intelligence” that was crucial for the success of the opening salvo of Israeli strikes.
Implications for Iran and Pakistan
For Iran, the exposure of Indian involvement is a wake-up call. Tehran has already summoned the Indian ambassador for explanations and is reportedly reviewing all Indian diplomatic and commercial activities in the country (IRNA, 2025). For Pakistan, the revelations confirm long-standing suspicions that India is using its regional footprint not just against Islamabad, but also to destabilize Iran and serve Israeli interests (Discourse, 2025).
The shadowy alliance between Mossad and Indian intelligence is now an open secret. As Iran and Pakistan reassess their security postures, the region must reckon with a new reality: Indian operatives, under the guise of diplomacy and commerce, are playing a dangerous game—one that threatens the stability of the entire region.
